Microsoft is reporting that the Xbox One achieved number one status in America for NPD sales in December 2013. The Xbox One sold 908k units in December along with its Xbox 360 predecessor at 643k units sold for the month, representing a 46 percent hardware marketshare for both systems in the US. Both consoles led in hardware sales for their respective generation.
“We’re grateful for the excitement and support of our fans – many purchasing their next Xboxconsole and many joining the Xbox family for the first time,” Microsoft's Yusuf Mehdi said. “Our journey is just starting, with more innovation, games and entertainment coming in 2014 and far beyond.”
According to Microsoft's retail and digital sales data, Xbox One is achieving a 2.9 games per console attach rate since its launch on November 22.
In terms of worldwide sales, Microsoft previously revealed that Xbox One sold over three million units at the end of 2013 while Sony announced that PlayStation 4 sold over four million consoles by December 28, 2013."
